Artist Statement
Susan Alport elevates discarded and mundane elements and objects from the streets to gallery walls to bring attention and appreciation to the overlooked, undervalued, and readily rejected in our culture.
Using installation, photography, and collage, she creates visual metaphors for bringing the "outsider" in to ask viewers to consider how the unique presence and inherent worth of each object can enhance our individual lives and society as a whole.
The artist is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and also holds both a BA and an MA in English Language and Literature. She has taught art to children at the New Art Center in Newton, MA, and now teaches ESL in the Somerville, MA, Public Schools.
Her work has appeared in numerous juried exhibits in New England, including the Boston Drawing Show, and is held in private collections throughout Greater Boston and New York. It can also be viewed at Kingston Gallery, Boston, where she is a member.
